A Hard Word

Do you want to know whether a person, culture, or nation is for or against God and his ways? Consider how the person, culture, or nation values human life.

Scripture says that there are a few things that are never satisfied, including man’s desires, fire, and the grave (see Proverbs 27:20; 30:16). There will always be death on this earth, and there will always be people who support it. The people who advocate taking the life of the unborn and encourage medically assisted suicide and the disintegration of the home as the cornerstone of culture, love death.

It’s a hard word, and it may sound harsh to put it that way, but please listen to how Proverbs 8 ends. Verse 36 states, “All who hate me love death.” Those who tear down the very foundations of life and society for their right to seek pleasure as they see fit embrace a culture of death that exalts itself against what God has declared to be good.

There seem to be only two choices. Either we make the wisdom of God the standard by which we live our lives, invest in our communities, and govern our nation, or we reject it to our own demise. Those who hold power will strive to retain power. With God’s absolute standards of justice and righteousness, we have a foundation for law and order. With God as our Creator, we confess we are endowed by him with certain inalienable rights.

Unfortunately, in our world today, the wisdom of God is despised. Take a look around at the affection for death, and you will see that the wisdom of God has been ignored by many. Let’s not travel down the road to death.
