A Fifteen-Round Fight

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fought in the fight of the century in May 2015. These two legends of the boxing world were finally squaring off, and the match was hyped beyond belief. Unfortunately, the hype was greater than the fight, as the two older boxers didn’t give the show that many had hoped for.

Some fights are over quickly; some last for what seems an eternity. Nehemiah, a leader in Jerusalem, found himself in the fight of his life, one with heavyweight punches being thrown. You see, Nehemiah was fighting to rebuild and reestablish the walls and the city of Jerusalem, the City of God.

Nehemiah was fighting for the Lord’s glory and the people’s safety, and this took time. It also brought angst and fear and demanded sacrifice. As the people worked on rebuilding the wall, a guard kept watch day and night, and the people labored day after day. Nehemiah inspired the people to stay in Jerusalem, keep battling for their future, and take the threat seriously. By fighting for their future, Nehemiah shows us how to fight for ours.

You may find yourself fighting for your marriage, your teenager’s future, or the integrity of your name. Every move you make matters. Nehemiah 4:22 states, “I also told everyone living outside the walls to stay in Jerusalem. That way they and their servants could help with guard duty at night and work during the day.” Don’t underestimate the deception and harsh tactics of the enemy. Stay prayerful, fighting on your knees at night, and focused, being ever alert and vigilant during the day. May the Lord be your banner as you fight today!
