A Blue Christmas

In A Charlie Brown Christmas, Charlie Brown just can’t get into the Christmas spirit. His little friend Linus observes, “Charlie Brown, you’re the only person I know who can take a wonderful season like Christmas and turn it into a problem.”

For many people, the Christmas holidays are a time of difficulty instead of joy. Maybe this is the first Christmas you will experience without someone you loved deeply. Or maybe you are struggling in a key relationship or having difficulty making ends meet.

Did you know that you can still have joy in the midst of your struggle? When you understand the heart of Christmas, the joy that is beyond your circumstances will carry you. During this season, when you feel alone, lost, or forgotten, turn to Isaiah 26:3: “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” Fix your mind, your emotions, and your will on the one who will give you peace during this holiday season.

The earth has dealt with difficulty since the very beginning when man chose a path of sin that led to death. But even in that moment, we see God’s promise of redemption: “I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel” (Genesis 3:15).

Hundreds of years after that first promise was given, the Son of God was born, so that our God would restore that which was broken in the Garden long, long ago. He will make all things new. May the Lord grant you a merry Christmas!
