You Shall Call Him
You Shall Call Him
For more than twenty years, I’ve sent out Christmas cards with no family pictures, no beautiful graphics, no pop-up figures or flowery script. Even though I feel a little silly doing it, each year I write and send to family and friends an original poem. I meant to do this only once, but my mother must have thought I would continue, because the next year, she asked me if I’d forgotten to send “her poem.” So I kept writing them, mostly for her. (If you’ve received one or many of these, don’t think you aren’t loved and special too. You are. But my mom was not someone you wanted to disappoint.) I’m not sure which one was Mother’s favorite, and I can’t ask her now. But this is mine. Thirty-three words. One for each year of my Savior’s earthly life. Because no number of words about him will ever be enough.
You shall call His name
Sea-calmer,
Wine-maker,
Fish-finder,
Friend
Wound-healer,
Truth-teller,
Soul-seeker,
Lamb
Love-walker,
Star-hanger,
Tear-keeper,
Mine
Bread-breaker,
Kiss-taker,
Grave robber,
Thine.
And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that should be written.
John 21:25, NASB
