Workers At Home

They can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

HOW CAN WE BALANCE work, home, family, marriage, and ministry? Some people of faith try to balance a woman’s life by limiting her call to home and family, often citing Titus 2:3-5.

What does “busy at home” mean? Word studies define “worker at home” as “a guard of the home; a keeper of the home; domestically inclined.”

I studied this verse and that phrase in depth, I read volumes of commentators and word study books, and in the end, the best synopsis for “worker at home” is that a woman’s heart is home. Her priorities reflect a God- and family-focused value system. So her feet could be anywhere, but her heart is at home.

I have operated under this definition for all of my children’s lives, and it seems to be working. My husband feels loved, my children are grown, and all are strong spiritually. I have helped provide for my family, and some people have also been helped in ministry along the way.
