Under The Surface

To Read: Philippians 3:7-11

Under the Surface

I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.

PHILIPPIANS 3:9

A PROSTITUTE. She was used to the looks, the catcalls. She was even used to the feeling of being used by men. But she was not used to the kindness and the respect she was given one day by some men whom she knew were spies for the people of God.

She had heard much about the strength of their God. He seemed bigger, more real than the gods of stone and wood that sat carved about her city.

She told the men how she and her people reacted to their God and all he had done. But she also asked them to swear to show kindness to her and her family because of the kindness she showed them. Asking for a sign, she was told by the men that it would be their lives for hers, and they promised they would treat her kindly and faithfully when God gave them the land (Joshua 2:11-14).

Smart woman—she could spot a good deal! All she’d seen were bad deals her whole life. So when she saw the opposite, she knew it had to be the real deal.

How about you? The best deal ever offered was Jesus’ righteousness for your imperfection. Have you claimed your right to this deal?

You won’t get a better offer.
