Twisting

[The devil] was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

SATAN IS A DECEIVER. Let’s continue rewriting the last of the Ten Commandments and notice how he wants to feed your lust and your desires, while leaving out the consequences. Satan might say:

“Murder might be a gift. Death isn’t really so bad. Death is a great escape, suicide a statement.” The Bible says Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Satan doesn’t tell someone in a rage, bent on self-mutilation, self-destruction, or suicide, “Wait, consider the consequences.” No, he wants you to go with the emotion of the moment.

“Have sex with whomever you want. If it feels good, do it! Marriage is overrated—look, hardly anyone is happily married. Fulfill all your desires, right now, any way you want.” The Bible says that marriage is the best place for sex because it is a committed relationship. Trust is the key to sexual fulfillment, and trust is built by commitment. Satan wants you to use others and to be used. He wants you to get hooked on sex, not hooked on love, because love reflects God.

“Take what you want. If someone is stupid enough to leave it right there in open sight, they are just asking for you to take it. You need it more than they do.” I don’t think Satan brings up jail sentences while tempting.

“White lies are all right. Say whatever you need to cover for yourself. If you want it, go after it: someone’s house, car, boyfriend, husband, clothes, or status. Take them down. Your needs are most important.” Satan won’t mention to you that a certain statement or action could destroy a friendship or work relationship. He wants to put you on the hook, not take you off the hook. He wants to leave you twisting in the wind.
