Touched By An Angel

Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

AN ANGELIC VISITATION announced the birth of two very important people: Jesus and John, the one who prepared the way for Jesus. However, the way the angelic message was received was very different.

Zechariah was doubtful and asked, “How can I be sure?” The angel picked up on the unbelief. Zechariah was a priest, an older, mature leader—yet he had doubts. The angel rebuked him, and Zechariah’s unbelief was silenced—for the entire pregnancy!

Mary was young, very young. She was afraid, like Zechariah. She also had a question: “How will this be?” But the angel didn’t punish her for the question. Why?

Zechariah knew better. He had represented God for years. Zechariah was asking for proof—and God had given him all kinds of proof in the Scriptures. Zechariah was another Abraham-and-Sarah story, a story he knew well.

Mary believed but wanted to know how it was going to happen because nothing like this had ever happened before.

Has God given you a promise, a promise with proof? Are you still stalling on carrying out the promise? Are you asking God for more and more proof so you don’t have to walk by faith?

Choose Mary’s heart—believe, then ask God, “How?” How do you want me to react? How do you want me to go forward? How do you want me to step out in faith?
