The Flight

This is what the LORD says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow.”

ISAIAH 48:17

I WAS ON AN AIRPLANE I wasn’t supposed to be on. My flight had been canceled the night before, and I was given a hotel room and a flight out the next day. I wanted to sleep in a bit since we got to our room at 1 a.m., so I took a 10:30 a.m. flight.

Because so many people from the canceled flight I was to be on were rerouted to an early morning flight, Terri, a mom flying standby, discovered her first flight option was 10:30, too. As we sat next to each other, I learned she was going to a Christian college to see if she could iron out a housing glitch for her son. He was supposed to have a dorm room but had just received notice he did not.

I also had a son moving out to attend college, so my heart went out to her. I offered to pray for her and her son. I asked her to let me know how God answered. I knew in my heart that God would provide something; her son wanted to grow in his walk with God.

A few weeks later I got an email thanking me for my calming prayers and relaying the good news: Her son had a dorm room!

Every day, there are people along our path whom God has called us to encourage. As we do so, we see miracles, and God builds our faith. We see how God puts two women, neither of whom was “supposed” to be on a flight, in seats next to each other and gives encouragement and hope in Christ.

God moves people to places for their good and for his glory.
