Lack in Love
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind”; and, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
A COLLEAGUE WAS TALKING about discipling and training leaders. “When I see that a person has a deficit in his or her relationships with people, I know they have a deficit in their relationship with God. When we are rightly relating to God, we gain the ability to rightly relate to others. The key is to discover what is missing in their relationship with God.”
What’s missing in your relationships with people? Are you . . .
Short with people? Maybe you are angry at God about his provision or timing.
Noncommunicative? How much are you praying and talking with God?
Distant? Maybe you have a hurt you haven’t allowed God to heal.
Keep running away from commitments? How are you doing keeping your commitments to God?
Hiding in drugs, shopping, or booze? What are you hiding from God? Pain? Disappointment? Trauma?
Always nagging? How’s your trust level with God? Feeling like you need to help him out?
Resentful? Your underground anger will go deeper unless you let God meet the need you feel the person near you is supposed to meet.
Look at your relationships—is there an unhealthy pattern? Now transpose that to your relationship with God. Invest in your primary relationship (with God), and you may see improvement in all your secondary ones (with people).
