Facing God

Whenever [Moses] went into the Tent of Meeting to speak with the LORD . . . the people of Israel would see the radiant glow of his face.

THE LORD SPOKE TO MOSES face-to-face, just like a friend (Exodus 33:11). Moses had a real, deep friendship with God. What were the results of his friendship with God?

Moses overcame insecurities. When God first called him, Moses felt insecure. “Pardon your servant, Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue” (Exodus 4:10, NIV).

But the Lord encouraged him by saying that he would help him speak and teach him what to say. God walked Moses through numerous scenarios that might happen with Pharaoh and told him how to respond.

Moses reorganized his strengths to accomplish God’s plan. God helped Moses see he was the man for the job, since Moses knew the language, beliefs, and customs from growing up in the palace. God gave him the insight to see how to use all these skills, talents, and experiences for God’s people.

Moses gained faith to lead, then delegate. He gained supernatural strength from his meetings with God, like when he was given the Ten Commandments for the people. Only a strong leader can lay out rules—people are resistant to rules. Then Moses was able to take good advice from his elders, appointing representatives to share leadership. Only a secure leader can share position and power.

Meeting with God regularly prepared Moses for the next step. What’s your next step? Don’t know? Get away with God. Know the next step but feel afraid? Get away with God. To face it, face him.
