Dealing with Doubt

I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word.

PSALM 119:16

AT TIMES, PEOPLE WONDER why a woman would spend so much time reading the Bible and praying. Maybe in a crunch you have told yourself, “I’m too busy to have a quiet time. Why pray? I need to just work harder and not spend my valuable minutes praying.” Perhaps you have forgotten just why so much of the Christian life centers on time in the Word:

  • The word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does (Psalm 33:4, NIV). Do you want to be faithful in all you do?
  • How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word (119:9, NIV). Do you want a pure life?
  • I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you (verse 11, NIV). Do you want to keep from sin?
  • My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word (verse 28, NIV). Do you need strength for the journey?
  • Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word (verse 37, NIV). Do you need help staying focused on the positive?
  • Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path (verse 105, NIV). Do you need guidance?
  • You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word (verse 114, NIV). Do you need shelter from a storm?
  • Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me (verse 133, NIV). Do you want to be in control of your life instead of life controlling you?

These are just a few of the benefits of reading the Word. I don’t have the time not to be in the Word!
