Impact Eternity Together
Impact Eternity Together
“The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’” (Matthew 25:23, NLT)
Rowing stands as an epitome of team sports. In the boat, eight out of nine team members sit, backs turned toward the finish line, hands gripping oars. These eight must move in absolute harmony. To generate the speed needed for victory, every oar must enter the water at precisely the same angle and time. Even a minor, unintentional shift of a wrist can disrupt the boat’s momentum. The ninth team member is the one who can see the destination—guiding and signaling when to accelerate or decelerate. The eight rowers trust his direction. In the sport of rowing, personal sacrifice is paramount, and the one who tries to stand out isn’t celebrated but critiqued by the team.
You and your spouse are teammates. You are in the boat together. Together, you’ll encounter setbacks and triumphs. And your marriage and finances will function best when you are in total sync with each other. Yet, you’re not alone in this boat; you have a guide who sees what you cannot see—God. And if you heed his directions on this side of eternity, you both will find yourself hearing the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant,” on the other side of eternity.
This team is among the most vital you’ll ever belong to, shaping not only your lives but also the lives of others. Does it demand sacrifice? Yes. Does it require commitment? Absolutely. But does it provide you and your spouse the chance to make an eternal impact? Undoubtedly.
God’s design for your marriage encompasses unity that extends to your household finances. Moreover, he invites both of you to join a mission of everlasting significance. By uniting as one, constructing a Blueprint for Mission, and channeling your finances toward eternal purposes, you and your spouse become a formidable force for the Kingdom. Money transitions from a source of discord to a wellspring of excitement. And then go after it. You and your spouse were made for this.
Are you prepared to be united as a married couple, across every facet of life, including finances? Are you poised to be an unwavering force for advancing the gospel? Are you ready to impact lives eternally, in partnership with the one who perceives beyond your sight? Listen to his guidance and heed his directions. Envision with your spouse how your leveraged resources can serve his Kingdom’s cause. Then, seize the opportunity. You and your spouse are destined for this purpose.
Reflect Together:
Talk to your spouse about the Kingdom impact you hope God allows your generosity to make. Ask your spouse what Kingdom-advancing hope they have as well. Then, ask God to give you the opportunity to be a part of such dreams, not for your sake, but for his glory.
