SOMETIMES God disciplines us by taking away something we have come to love more than him. Sometimes he allows us to experience the painful consequences of our own sinful choices. Other times, he may bring adversity into our lives as a way to refine us. God doesn’t discipline us to control us but to protect us. Sin always damages our relationship with God and others. He knows that if we continue down sinful paths, it will only end in pain. Therefore, God’s discipline is an act of love to keep us from destroying relationships, to help us build good character and habits, and to teach us right from wrong. If the weight of God’s discipline feels heavy in your life, remind yourself of his loving heart. God’s desire is to help you become the person he created you to be so you can experience a life of joy and peace.
