A Prayer For Mercy

A prayer for Mercy

When I need to grasp the mercy of God

Lord,

I am such a sinner. If I’m honest with myself, I admit that sin affects everything I do. It penetrates most of my thoughts. When you see how sin has infected me—and everyone on earth—it must break your heart. We are all so prone to ignore you, neglect you, even rebel against you. Why would you want to risk all this rejection? It can only be because of your infinite love and mercy. Out of your love comes the mercy that gives me a second chance even when I don’t deserve it. And it’s not just a second chance. Again and again you reach out to me in love, no matter how many times my sin drives a wedge between us. Even though my sin and rebellion against you deserve punishment, you offer forgiveness and eternal life instead. The more I understand that you show mercy even when I don’t deserve it, the more I will experience the full impact of your love for me. Only then will I be able to truly love others and show them mercy, even when they don’t deserve it.

The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. Psalm 103:8-10
