A Prayer About Vulnerability

A prayer about Vulnerability

When I need someone to trust with my deepest secrets

Dear Jesus,

What if others knew who I really am? At times I am frightened by this thought, but at other times I think I might be okay with it. I really long for someone to whom I can reveal my real self: my deepest fears, hurts, sins, and doubts. Doesn’t every human being need that kind of intimacy? Yet to whom could I reveal my heart? Can I trust anyone enough to be totally vulnerable with him or her? True vulnerability requires that I reveal the dark things I might have hoped would never come out in the open. While I long to be that transparent, I often resist being vulnerable about my sins, especially the ones I don’t want to give up. I even do this with you, Jesus. But vulnerability requires full disclosure. It is only through being vulnerable that I will find true healing, restoration, renewal, and forgiveness. Jesus, I admit my sins. You know them already anyway. I ask for your forgiveness. I ask you to restore our relationship and take my relationships with others to an even higher position of intimacy. I want to come out of darkness and be vulnerable with you so I can receive your forgiveness, which frees me from the burdens of my sin. Thank you, God, that because of your forgiveness, I have nothing to fear. I have nothing to hide because you have changed me.

There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. Romans 8:1-2
