A Prayer About The Past

A prayer about the Past

When I’m feeling regret about my past

Dear God,

I’ve had some wonderful moments in life, but I’ve also had times that I regret. I know that the way I view the past affects how I live today, so I want to deal with it correctly. The apostle Paul’s example always encourages me. Though he became one of the great leaders of the early church, he had a past he wished he could forget. What an immense burden of regret he could have carried. But Paul understood that his past had been redeemed through the blood of Christ, and he was able to move forward in service to you. What an example! Lord, I pray for those who have a strong spiritual heritage. I pray they would not take their legacy for granted but would pour into others the love that was poured into them. I pray also for those whose past is filled with regret. Show them that you are always ready to forgive us, to cleanse us on the inside, and give us a fresh start. I pray for those who have been victims of abuse, neglect, or violence. May they know that they are valued, loved, and cherished by you and that you want to redeem them. You are a God who longs to restore us. Please remove the guilt, regret, and shame of my past and free me to live in peace with purpose and joy.

I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Philippians 3:13-14
