A Prayer About Letting Go
A prayer about Letting Go
When I’m afraid to give anyone else control of my life
Heavenly Father,
I need to learn to let go. If could stop trying to control things, I could finally experience your best for me. Help me to know that learning to let go doesn’t mean embracing a void in my life but rather aligning my mind with your plans and aligning my heart with your purposes. It is only when I give up my will that I can be filled with your will. I want to control the outcome of my efforts, but when I try, I miss the opportunity for you to work through me. After I have done my best, I need to step back and trust you to complete the work you have asked me to start. Most important, I must learn to let go to receive salvation. Out of a natural desire to control life comes the idea that I can earn my way to heaven. But salvation, heaven, and eternity come from simple belief—they are gifts. O God, teach me to let go so I can freely trust you and receive the fullness of all of your blessings to me.
I know what enthusiasm [the people of Israel] have for God, but it is misdirected zeal. For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with himself. Refusing to accept God’s way, they cling to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law. For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God. Romans 10:2-4
