A Prayer About Help

A prayer about Help

When I’m reluctant to ask for help

Dear God,

I know I have limitations. I struggle with areas of weakness, experience feelings of inadequacy, and lack skills and abilities I wish I had. So often my limitations keep me from knowing what to do or how to do it—and when that happens, I resist asking for assistance. But I must acknowledge that I need help. Our culture admires the strong, independent spirit, but the truth is that no one can really survive alone. That’s why you created us to be in relationship with you and other people, and that means giving and receiving help. I need help to get work done. I need help to restore relationships. I need help to develop skills. I need help to think through my problems. And I really need help to say I’m sorry. I am going to start by asking you for help right now. You are my greatest helper, for you are wiser, stronger, and more loving than anyone on earth. Please show me how to cultivate the habit of seeking help from others and from you. I want to experience those moments when you come to my rescue. And may you use me to come to the rescue of others. May I not be afraid to offer help to those in need, even though I feel inadequate. I’ll give you the glory, Lord.

The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. Psalm 28:7
