A prayer about Expectations

When I want to know what God expects of me

O Lord,

Sometimes it seems as if your expectations of me are unrealistic. How can I possibly obey all your commands? How can I love according to your standards? Humanly speaking, these expectations are impossible, but with your help they become possible. I praise you for that! By your grace, your greatest expectation is not that I live a perfect life but that I love you with all my heart. When I realize that you don’t expect me to be flawless but rather are pleased when I sincerely try to follow you, I will no longer see you as a strict taskmaster but as a loving encourager. I love you, Lord.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 1 Peter 1:3-4
