A prayer about Conscience

When I need to sharpen my conscience

Dear Lord God,

Thank you for my conscience, which is your gift to keep me sensitive to your moral code for living. My conscience helps me understand when I have fallen out of line with your will. But I must use this gift to keep it sharp. Help me always to listen to and obey my conscience, for if I don’t, it will become harder and harder to hear. I can’t afford for it to malfunction and lead me astray, convincing me that right is wrong and wrong is right. May I keep my conscience finely tuned by staying close to you, spending time in your Word, and making an effort to understand my own tendencies toward right and wrong. May it always provide me with a strong inner sense of accountability about what is true and right. If I am increasingly unmoved by evil or injustice, remind me that my conscience is becoming dulled. O Lord, please continue to sharpen my conscience so that I consistently speak in harmony with your Word.

Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked. 1 Timothy 1:19
