A Prayer About Failure
A prayer about Failure
When I wonder how God defines failure
Holy God,
So many voices in my culture tell me that success involves things such as having a high-powered job, raising a perfect family, winning all kinds of community awards, and retiring comfortably. But if I did all these things apart from you, you would still say that I had failed. Failure in your eyes is when I am not living the way you created me to live. And you gave me the gift of life and created me for relationship with you—so my greatest failure would be to reject that. May I never fail by neglecting or ignoring you. May I acknowledge my need for you and live your perfect plan for my life.
[Jesus said,] “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” Matthew 7:24-27
