A prayer about Waking Up - Being prepared for Jesus’ return

DEAR JESUS,

This morning I am one day closer to your return! What a glorious thought. Since the day you ascended into heaven, your followers have anticipated the Second Coming. And because you said that only the Father knows the exact time, we should always be prepared. I admit my mistake has been to think the grand event is somewhere in the distant future, years from now. Yet I am trapped in time. But you are eternal, so a day to you is like a thousand years to me. In this passage Paul used the image of clothes to describe how we should get ready for the “day of salvation,” taking off the old and putting on the new. So I pray that this morning and every morning as I get dressed, I will be reminded to clothe myself with “the shining armor of right living.” I know you are with me at every moment, so keep me tuned in to the Spirit’s leading. Come soon, Lord Jesus, come soon!

Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living. Romans 13:11-12
