A Prayer About The Man Of Sorrows

A prayer about the Man Of Sorrows - Standing in awe of Jesus’ love

PRECIOUS SON OF GOD,

As a familiar song says, “I stand amazed in your presence.” When I think of all you endured for sinners—for me—I am humbled and overwhelmed with grateful emotion. “How marvelous! How wonderful!” You knew what would happen, and Isaiah prophesied hundreds of years beforehand. Misunderstood, slandered, falsely accused, abandoned by your closest friends, convicted though innocent, beaten, whipped, mocked, hung naked on a Roman cross, pierced, and separated from your Father—any one of those would be nearly impossible to bear. But you did all that and more: You carried the terrible weight of human rebellion and disobedience—the perfect Son of God becoming sin for us. You were crushed for us, for me. I am ashamed when I think how I often take your sacrifice for granted, complain over small inconveniences and conflicts, store treasures on earth, and halfheartedly serve you. My God, my King, my Savior, my Brother, my Friend—I love you and want to live fully for you. Thank you for giving your life for me.

He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. . . . He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. Isaiah 53:3, 5
