A Prayer About Significance
A prayer about Significance - Finding meaning
ETERNAL GOD,
I want my life to count for something, to make a difference, to be significant. I want to be remembered, for people to think positive thoughts as they recall my life. I know, however, that I am expendable, that my death will be like pulling a hand out of water, leaving not even a hole. These thoughts echo those of Solomon, who wrote, “Everything is meaningless.” So please help me get a grip on reality. I don’t want to be like people who believe the world revolves around them. But I also don’t want to think my life means nothing in the grand scheme of things. Thank you, God, for declaring that I am important. You have created me, chosen me, saved me, sent the Holy Spirit to live in me, surrounded me with people who care about me, and guided me. And you have prepared a place for me when I leave this life. I am significant to you, and only that matters.
“Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!” What do people get for all their hard work under the sun? Generations come and generations go, but the earth never changes. The sun rises and the sun sets, then hurries around to rise again. The wind blows south, and then turns north. Around and around it goes, blowing in circles. Ecclesiastes 1:2-6
