A Prayer About Setting A Good Example

A prayer about Setting A Good Example - Showing sensitivity to weaker believers

DEAR LORD,

I remember, when I was much younger, looking up to and modeling my life after someone who was a few years older. This person seemed larger than life, almost perfect—more spiritual, wiser, stronger, faster, and definitely “cooler.” So when my idol turned out to be imperfect, I was devastated, causing my faith to stumble backward a few steps. I know we shouldn’t put humans on pedestals, but I also know that some who are new in the faith look up to me as a role model. I need to point them away from me and to Jesus. But I also should be a good example of a mature follower of Christ. I especially want to be sensitive to those who are weak in certain areas of lifestyle and behavior. As a more mature believer, I may know more about the freedom Christians enjoy, but I shouldn’t flaunt that freedom and cause others to struggle and stumble in the faith as I did years ago. Help me, Lord.

You must be careful so that your freedom does not cause others with a weaker conscience to stumble. . . . When you sin against other believers by encouraging them to do something they believe is wrong, you are sinning against Christ. 1 Corinthians 8:9, 12
