A prayer about Self-image - Thanking God for how he has made me

CREATOR GOD,

I get so frustrated with myself, especially my physical characteristics and abilities (or lack of them). When I gaze in the mirror, I wish I were better looking. Hair, skin, eyes, nose, ears, mouth, teeth—everything seems to need improvement. Most days I’m discontented with my height, weight, coordination, or athletic prowess. I also wish, at times, that I could be smarter or more talented. But David’s point in today’s psalm hits me right in the self-concept. He praises your marvelous workmanship and the way you knit him together, making him “wonderfully complex.” That’s me, too. Just looking at my hand, I marvel at how everything works together: skin, blood, muscle, tendons, bones—all at my mental command, to point, snap my fingers, use a fork, or type. Add to that my senses, limbs, and organs—wow! Instead of wanting to be different, I need to thank you for making me me. Instead of comparing myself with others, I should honor you with who I am. Instead of putting myself down, I must lift you up.

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. Psalm 139:13-14
