A Prayer About Living Water

A prayer about Living Water - Drinking deeply

DEAR JESUS,

When I awaken during the night with a dry, almost parched throat, I simply go to the bathroom, fill a glass from the faucet, drink some water, and go back to bed. That isn’t desperate dryness, and it can be remedied easily. I haven’t experienced extreme thirst and the relief of rehydration, but I can see what a powerful illustration that is of how you relieve the dryness of the soul. You told the Samaritan woman about the “fresh, bubbling spring” that you provide. You gave me that water, Savior, and quenched my spiritual thirst. Now the water is there—the Spirit is within me—so any spiritual dryness I feel comes because I ignore the “spring” and venture off on my own. I need refreshment today, gulping from your Word, sipping throughout the day as we talk, drinking with my brothers and sisters in worship, dipping from the cistern of teaching and personal testimony. Keep me, I pray, from wandering in deserts of my own making. Meet me at the well again, Jesus.

Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” John 4:13-14
