A prayer about Honor - Overflowing with blessings

GREAT SHEPHERD,

I love the metaphor in today’s psalm because it so perfectly pictures our relationship. I am a lowly sheep, wandering through life under your direction, seeking green pastures and still waters. I am vulnerable, unable to defend myself against prowling wolves. But you are with me, guarding and guiding me. And here is the most amazing truth in this psalm: You “honor me.” I have done nothing to deserve this, but you have chosen to save me, protect me, and take me home. Thank you for all you have done for me thus far and for the promise in this psalm for the future. David could declare with confidence that you would be with him “all the days of [his] life” and that the end of his earthly life would signal the beginning of his life in your house forever. That is my declaration as well. At every twist and turn of this day, every conversation, meeting, task, opportunity, and controversy, let this helpless and clueless sheep remember your goodness and unfailing love.

You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23:5-6
