A Prayer About Growing Older
A prayer about Growing Older - Embracing my age
HEAVENLY FATHER,
Yesterday I exerted myself physically beyond what I should have, and this morning I’m paying the price. I have pains where I didn’t know I had places. Just a few years ago, I could have done that effortlessly and without thinking. Now I have to be careful because I might pull a muscle, strain my back, or worse. I envy the strength and endurance of young people. Help me, Father, to accept the aging process and my physical limitations and to celebrate the new and improved me. I do not envy youthful immature thinking, careless living, and impulsive decision making. My experiences have given me invaluable tools for living, and because I gave my life to you years ago, you have given me wisdom to use those tools. You have also blessed me with a lifetime of loving relationships. Today I can think deeper, relate better, and work smarter than ever. So let these aches remind me that I’m not as young as I used to be, and that’s good.
Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me. Psalm 71:18
Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by living a godly life. Proverbs 16:31
