A Prayer About God’s Patience

A prayer about God’s Patience - Appreciating his pursuit

ALMIGHTY GOD,

I am so grateful that you are patient and kind. Since the Fall and throughout history you have given all people resources, protection, and the way to eternal life, yet we continually ignore you and your perfect instructions and guidance. Thinking we know best how to run our lives, we try living on our own. Not wanting anyone to tell us what to do, we rebel against your authority. We are like ants standing on an anthill, shaking our fists at a benevolent human towering over us and saying, “I hate you!” If I were that person, my foot would crush those ants in a second. But you don’t wipe us out. Instead, you patiently send messengers—prophets, teachers, preachers, missionaries, family, friends, and neighbors—to share your truth. O gracious God, thank you for being patient with the human race and especially for being patient with me. I took so long to respond to your call—you could have left me in my sin. But you drew me close and made me new. What amazing love!

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 2 Peter 3:9
