A Prayer About God’s Care

A prayer about God’s Care - Living without fear

DEAR JESUS,

I was mesmerized when I heard the classic song “His Eye Is on the Sparrow”: “I sing because I’m happy. I sing because I’m free. His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me.” This song is compelling because of its personal and life-changing message: I need not fear—even those who would inflict great physical harm, including death—because they cannot hurt me in any significant way; they can’t touch my soul. I can think that because I am so insignificant, you couldn’t possibly be concerned about me or even notice me. But you know the sparrows—you see when they fly and when they fall. So I can sing; I can dance; I can praise you and live free from fear. You know me. You see me. You love me! Thank you, Jesus.

Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. Matthew 10:28-31
