A prayer about Endurance - Developing character
HOLY SPIRIT,
This morning I ask for patience because of the issues I’m facing. You know this is a struggle for me because, even in asking, I am impatient, wanting patience now! Forgive me and do your powerful work in me so that I will relax and depend on you and your perfect timing. I know I’m supposed to rejoice when I have “problems and trials,” but that’s tough because of the emotional strain and stress. At times this seems like a long-distance race when I have hit the wall and feel as though I can’t run another stride. So I pray for patient endurance. I am convinced that we can get through this, you and I, because we have faced much more difficult challenges in the past. I just need to remember that fact and claim the promise of today’s passage in Romans, that what I am experiencing will develop my “strength of character.” So with your power, I will take one agonizing step at a time toward the finish line, confident in your presence and love.
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. Romans 5:3-4
