A Prayer About Divided Loyalties

A prayer about Divided Loyalties - Serving God alone

MY SAVIOR,

Throughout your ministry you made it perfectly clear that having divided loyalties doesn’t work and is not acceptable to you. Instead, you want total commitment—no “two masters”; no looking back. I love you, Jesus, and want that to be true of me. Yet I know that I am susceptible to temptations and outside influences. The world places such a high value on having money and possessions that I can become driven to make and amass more and more. Or I can allow a relationship to come between us. I may even look back with longing to my life before you. How shortsighted and foolish! Forgive me. I know that moment-by-moment today, I have a crucial choice to make. I can live for heaven or for earth but not for both. What the world offers is meaningless in light of eternity. It is passing, fading, but life with you is forever. And my days here are limited, so why should I focus on a few years of comfort when heaven awaits? I serve you alone!

No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money. Matthew 6:24
