A Prayer About Conformity

A prayer about Conformity - Being transformed

FATHER GOD,

The world squeezes, and at times the pressure is strong, urging me to do what is contrary to your Word. At other times, it is slow and subtle, in the arenas of intellectual presuppositions and priorities. The drumbeat messages—conventional wisdom and political correctness—often directly contradict what you command. When I begin thinking like the world, I move away from the kind of person you want me to be. Just because “everybody does it” is no excuse for doing something wrong. But isn’t that what I do when I give in to worldly “behavior and customs,” values, and ideas? Strengthen my resolve, God. I want to stand strong for what I know is right in what I think, say, and do, especially as I relate to others. Transform my life. Take my body, mind, and relationships—all of me. As a living sacrifice, I want to be dead to the influence of the world.

Let [your body] be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind [God] will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:1-2
