A Prayer About Confession

A prayer about Confession - Admitting my sin

DEAR LORD,

I am a sinner—no doubt. I struggle with a sinful nature and confirm that truth daily through my attitudes, thoughts, values, and actions. So I wonder how anyone could ever claim to “have no sin”? But I do when I compare myself to others to justify my actions or when I rationalize my faults. Or I can take your love for granted when I assume that I can do what I want and then just ask for forgiveness. When I do any of that, I am a fool. I know I am forgiven and my salvation is secure, but my sin grieves you and hurts our relationship. So I confess that I desperately need you. I also confess my sins, which are many. I have no doubt that you are “faithful and just.” And I praise you for wiping my slate clean, for making me pure and innocent in your presence. I love you, God, and want nothing to come between us.

If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:8-9
