A prayer about By-products - Producing fruit

DIVINE SPIRIT,

I desire every one of the nine characteristics listed in today’s verses, and I know I will need all of them today. My patience will be tested almost immediately as I prepare and get going with my daily routine and tasks. Then when I interact with those hard-to-get-along-with people, I will need love and self-control. With all the issues swirling about in the nation and my life, I will need peace. And I can envision many situations in which kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and gentleness will be necessary. You know that through the years I have tried to manufacture each one but have failed. And that’s because, as you have revealed, they are fruit—by-products of your work in me. I cannot generate them on my own. Instead, as I submit to Christ’s control, you produce those character qualities. I know you live in me and are always available, but I need to yield, to allow you to do your powerful work in my life. I want to be Spirit-led. I am yours, Lord. Fill me, mold me, move me, and guide me, I pray.

The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22-23
