A Prayer About Values

When I realize what is most important

HEAVENLY FATHER,

Jesus spoke about seeking your Kingdom above everything else in the context of highlighting your abundant provision for us and the importance of not being consumed by worry. People can allow the concerns of everyday life—important matters such as food, clothing, and shelter—to push you out of your rightful place in their lives. Sometimes a relationship takes priority over you. Every now and then a personal goal or dream takes top spot. Even church responsibilities, programs, and activities can intrude. But mostly the normal stresses and pressures of daily living consume my attention. At such times, when I scurry around to get something done, it’s all I think about. Forgive me, Lord. I also confess that I don’t seek you first when I meet a challenge—usually only as a last resort. O Father, I want all my values to be holy and right, but I desperately desire seeking you and your Kingdom to stand above all else.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33
