A Prayer About The Incarnation
A prayer about The Incarnation
When I think of what Jesus did for me
MY SAVIOR, MY GOD,
You became a human person, a baby. The word incarnation says it all, but that sounds technical and theological. It just means something like, “with meat on”; in other words, you “put on flesh,” human flesh, a body. The spirit “became flesh,” one of us—someone just like me. Every year at Christmas, we celebrate your birth with simple plays, grand pageants, and cantatas, featuring the little baby in the manger surrounded by Mary and Joseph, animals and shepherds. Then kings come bearing gifts. The story is familiar, but we can miss the miracle. The Eternal became mortal. The All-powerful became weak. The Sovereign became servant. The Everything became nothing. The Holy One became sin. I worship and adore you, Jesus. I know you came, lived, died, and rose for all who believe, but you also came for me. Not only did you submit yourself to all the limitations of being a man, but you submitted yourself to death, to the Cross. Words fail me as I try to express how I feel. I love you, Savior.
Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Philippians 2:6-8
