A Prayer About Running The Race

When I head for the finish line

MY SAVIOR,

Oh, what a race I am running! When I was much younger, I thought I could run life’s race easily and forever. But the racecourse had many unexpected twists, turns, elbows, and obstacles, and now I ache and my energy is waning. I confess that at times I have made life difficult as I struggled to carry burdens as I ran—guilt, anxiety, fear. Forgive me for not giving them to you and for often running with untied shoes, sins that tripped me. Seeing what you endured helps me push through the pain. I am also thankful for the “huge crowd of witnesses” who have finished life’s marathon victorious and now enjoy their rewards in heaven with you. What a great encouragement knowing that if they could make it, so can I. Thank you for this faith legacy. In large part, because of their faithfulness I know you. I want to run this life race for you and with you. I’m in for the duration, so please give me strength and resolve to run well and finish strong.

Since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. Hebrews 12:1
