A Prayer About Inspiration

When I consider the gift of your Word

HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD,

What a gift the Bible is to the whole world, to your people, and to me. Every year it tops the bestseller list and is now available worldwide in hundreds of languages and thousands of editions. The Holy Bible is God breathed—“inspired.” Over many centuries, you chose certain people to faithfully record your messages. Using their unique personalities, life experiences, and gifts, they wrote exactly what you wanted them to write. And you have preserved your written Word through all these years so that I can read, study, understand, and apply it. This is true for all Scripture, all sixty-six books, so I should not ignore any section, book, or part of a book. When I read the Bible, I am often convicted about what I am doing or the way I am going. Then you reveal to me the path I should take. You promise to “equip [your] people to do every good work.” I want to be prepared, fully equipped to defeat temptation and sin; to do what is right; and to glorify you.

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
