A Prayer About Grief
A prayer about Grief
When I am overcome with sorrow
O GOD,
I don’t know how much more I can take. This loss seems beyond what I can bear, dear Lord. I remember as a child weeping over a favorite toy that was broken. Later, as an adolescent, a shattered romance tore my heart. So I’ve experienced loss before . . . but never like this—so strong and so deep that I wonder how I can go on. The funeral was hard, but the grief hit hardest as I walked slowly away from the grave. You fully understand my feelings because you experienced the most devastating and profound loss imaginable. So help me now, I pray. O Divine Comforter—heal and comfort my soul. I know death is not final—I know that in my mind, and I truly believe it. So why doesn’t that truth translate to my feelings? I want to stop my crying and move on. Please, Lord, give me peace. Let me know you are here, with me at this time. Give me hope and strength to turn the page on this dark chapter of my life.
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
