A Prayer About Eternal Life

When I understand my new life in Christ

SPIRIT OF GOD,

When I first trusted Christ as Savior, I passed from death into life. Before that, not only was I mortal and sentenced to a physical death; I was also dead spiritually and headed for judgment. Then, at my conversion, you took up residence in me and gave me new life, beginning at that moment and lasting forever. Eternal life began then for me and will extend after my time on earth has ended. Some believe that this life is all there is, so when we die, that’s it. Others speak of “living on,” but they mean in other people’s memories. I know the truth—that we were made for eternity. For believers, that means living eternally with you. Everything in the world is temporary, lasting such a short time, and each passing day I am reminded of that truth in my own mind and body. Even though I am grateful for every moment I have to live here for you, I know that my hope is not in this place, in this life, but with you for eternity. Hallelujah!
