A Prayer About Being Spirit Led

When I understand God’s work in me

SPIRIT OF GOD,

Do your powerful, life-changing work in me, I pray. When I gave my life to Christ, you came into my life; since then, you are constantly transforming me into the kind of person you want and that I should be. You give me new perspective, thoughts, values, and strength. You also give me words to speak and potential actions to take. And you lead me as I submit to your direction and control. At times your leading is obvious to me, at other times much more subtle. But always you are guiding me to opportunities to glorify God by showing compassion, serving, listening, meeting needs, correcting, encouraging, comforting, and telling others about Christ. What a privilege to be used by you! You also tell me what not to do and what to avoid. I am continually amazed at the way you lead and direct. The only problem, however, is that sometimes I don’t submit to you, either by ignoring you or choosing to disobey. Please forgive me. Keep me in tune with you, sensitive to your will. Lead me.

Dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. Romans 8:12-14
