A Prayer About Being Chosen By God
A prayer about Being Chosen By God
When I question my identity
LORD,
I remember, as a child, when teams were chosen on the playground. The “captains” would take turns pointing out whom they wanted. Everyone wanted to be on a strong team, of course, but the one thing dreaded most was being chosen last. That person felt totally unwanted, rejected. I know I have felt that way. And all my life people have been defining me: what I can and cannot do, who I am (child, student, young person, adult, employee), and what I am like (physically attractive or plain, achiever or underachiever, slim or overweight, tall or short, poor or rich). Add my race, sex, nationality, political affiliation, and church membership, and I see myself as a confusing blend of characteristics and qualities that often fall short of what and who I want to be. But then I remember that I am yours. I belong to you, chosen, bought, redeemed, and brought into your family. Regardless of the other voices describing me, I know that I am yours, and that is all that matters. Thank you, Lord.
You are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9
