A Reflection On The Holy Spirit

When I want God to control my life

Is your life driven by the Spirit? Not if it is predictable and reasonable. Not if the unbelieving world can explain it. There is considerable contrast between the ways of human nature and the ways of the Spirit. Read of the believers in Acts or of the faithful in Hebrews 11. There is an eternal wisdom behind the values Jesus preached. There is a heavenly city being built for those who shed their earthly ambitions.

Beware of a way of life that is acceptable to conventional, human reasoning. Kingdom values are a mystery to those who have fixed their gaze on this world. The mind of sinful humanity neglects the eternal for the temporal and the holy for the profane. Its followers, therefore, give tainted advice. Do not follow it. Live a supernatural life under supernatural guidance. Be blown by God’s Spirit. He blows wherever He pleases and takes us where the world cannot go.

The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.
