A Reflection On Hope

When I am discouraged

We face a lot of discouragement in life. We hear the negative reports of those who think every situation is a hopeless one. And when we encounter “impossible” situations, we are frequently fed complex, impotent approaches to them. But we need to remember that with Jesus, no situation is hopeless. Even apparent disasters are entirely redeemable for a sovereign God who responds to faith. Let Jesus walk into your situation and speak a soothing, simple word. Let Him enter into the distresses of your life and gently take your hand.

Is it discouragement? Depression? Hopelessness? Dread? The ravages of death itself? No matter. Let Him come in, take your hand, and whisper the encouraging, life-giving words only a loving parent can whisper. We need to tune out everything else and listen to the gentle voice of our God.

The crowd laughed at him. But he made them all leave, and he took the girl’s father and mother and his three disciples into the room where the girl was lying. Holding her hand, he said to her, “Talitha koum,” which means “Little girl, get up!” And the girl, who was twelve years old, immediately stood up and walked around!
