A Reflection On Despair

When I am overcome with spiritual struggles

We face intense struggles in our Christian life. Circumstances rise up against us; our devotion to God is threatened by temptation; and persecution is inevitable for those who stand faithful in Christ. Looking at our natural capabilities, we will despair at the supernatural battle that comes against us. But despair leads us to Jesus. The answer cannot come from ourselves—we are too weak. When Jesus says, “To him who overcomes,” He is telling us to rest faithfully in Him.

To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life.
