What You Fear

What You Fear

Fear can be a healthy emotion. You should fear crossing the street without looking both ways. You should fear loose mountain lions, tornado warnings, and smoking five packs of cigarettes a day.

But fear can also keep you from leaving what’s familiar to experience this life of adventure. When you ignore these kinds of fears, you’ll find yourself only dreaming of adventure and never actually living it.

Am I good enough? Can I do it? What will it be like? What if I fail? What if I get hurt again?

Naming your fears can make them feel a little less threatening. But once they’re named, they must be banished, or at least muted. The adventures you’ve been called to experience are more significant than your fears.

And more importantly, the One who calls you to step out the door believes you can do it, and He will guide you and protect you.

The word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.”
