The Still, Small Voice

The Still, Small Voice

There is an invisible blanket around you. Thick, heavy. Your mind feels empty and filled with cotton at the same time. Your eyes ache. Sleep, when you can find it, is your only relief from this dull, ever-present ache.

You’re suffering deep depression. You don’t even care anymore. People will suggest medications or yoga or getting a dog, but you feel as though there’s nothing that can be done.

And in that nothingness, God is there. God is the only living Being ever to dwell amid nothing and win. God can speak loudly and with fanfare. But usually He speaks in a still, small voice, and you have to become very still and very quiet in order to hear it. When you are deeply depressed, that’s an opportune time to hear Him.

Just stay where you are, and allow yourself to be covered by God’s wings of solace and protection until what’s wrong can be made right again.

I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. —Psalm 57:1
